PRLog (Press Release) - Sep 02, 2011 - Motorists living in Scotland are the most likely to own a personalised numberplate new research by elephant.co.uk has revealed. And the plates are odds-on to be seen adorning the bumpers of luxury cars such as Bentleys, Ferraris and Aston Martins.

Car insurance (http://www.elephant.co.uk/ ) specialist elephant.co.uk looked at 3.5 million policies and found that of the top 10 postcodes where personalised plates are popular, eight are in Scotland, with the affluent settlement of Kilmacolm in Inverclyde at the top of the list. 14% of drivers there own a personalised plate compared to a national average of 4%.

In second place we move to the other end of the country to the millionaire's playground of Sandbanks in D 2011 Chrysler 200 Convertible orset (13%), but then in third place it's back up north with the prosperous Glasgow commuter area of Newton Mearns (12%). Also in the top 10 are a number of postcodes in and around Aberdeen, with North Ferriby in Humberside joining Sandbanks as the only other location outside of Scotland.

When it comes to occupations, elephant.co.uk found that Company Chairmen are head and shoulders above the rest with 16% owning one, followed by Bank Directors on 12% and Property Developers on 11%.

The Hilborough and Northwold area near Thetford, Norfolk was revealed as the area of the UK with the lowest percentage of cars with personalised numberplates, croupiers were the occupation at the bottom of the list whilst the Suzuki Liana is the vehicle least likely to have one attached to it.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The 103TDI diesel engine shines at practically every engine speed with categorically high torque; it already delivers its maximum 320NM starting at 1,750rpm and holds it constant up to 2,500rpm.

Fuel economy figures are remarkably low with the Škoda Superb 103TDI only needing 6.1 litres of diesel to cover 100 kilometres, with CO2 emissions of 161 g/km (Wagon 6.2L/km; 164g/km). The Superb 4x4 103TDI consumes 6.4L/km and CO2 emissions are a low 167g/km (Wagon 6.5L/km; 171g/km).

TECHNOLOGY

ŠKODA's advanced 4WD is designed to tackle those challenging conditions that would leave twowheel drive competitors scrabbling for grip. Power distribution is controlled electronically by a fourth-generation Haldex clutch. Under normal traction conditions, 96% of the total power is directed to the front axle. In adverse weather conditions the Haldex system reacts in a split second to redirect power to those wheels with better traction, greatly increasing driving safety.

The electronic control unit evaluates all the necessary information such as wheel speed, accelerator pedal position, engine speed, and data from the chassis stability programmes. This information is used to regulate the value and development of the hydraulic pressure on the clutch discs. The clutch can vary the torque distribution ratio between the front and rear wheels from 98:2 up to 2:98.

When braking, the Haldex clutch automatically disconnects, to increase stability. If a sensor fails or the control unit receives questionable information, the clutch goes into a structured 'emergency' programme. If the signals from the wheel revolution sensors are interrupted, the clutch is deactivated for safety reasons and torque is transmitted to the front wheels only.

SAFETY AND CONVENIENCE

Passenger protection in every Superb is of the highest level, starting with its standard nine airbags – front driver and passenger airbags, front and rear side airbags, curtain airbags and driver's knee airbag are standard across the range. Also standard is the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and a wide array of electronic safety systems, which ensure good steering control of the vehicle in various situations. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Anti- Slip Regulation (ASR) are standard components of the braking system of every Superb, as well as a dual rate brake booster, which contributes to a shorter braking distance in critical situations.

As standard equipment, a 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine will drive the Sonic's front wheels through a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Making 135 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque (90 percent of which is available from 2,400 to 6,500 rpm), the Sonic's engine should have no trouble motivating it first drive audi a6 s subcompact size.

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 18, 2011 - Europcar's team in Scotland are pulling out all the stops to raise money for BEN as the automotive charity celebrates its 106th birthday.

Fundraising efforts started in June, and Europcar staff have organised a number of local events which have been continuing through the Summer, culminating in the Grand Finale on the August Bank Holiday weekend.  

On 28th August, up to 15 cars will be revving their engines to take part in Europcar's Wacky Treasure Hunt which, together with a Wacky Raffle, is hoped to raise around £3,000 for BEN.

The Wacky Treasure Hunt, organised by Europcar staff, starts in Edinburgh with each car given a number of clues, taking them to various tourists point across the central belt of Scotland.  The treasure hunt finishes at Europcar's location at Glasgow Central, where fundraisers and supporters will be able to enjoy a BBQ and disco to say 'thank you' to everyone involved.

Before the disco kicks off with a rousing performance from Scottish tribal band, Clanadonia, Europcar has organised a grand prize raffle. Prizes up for grabs include pairs of Rangers hospitality tickets, Manchester United tickets, vouchers for the Burgham Park PGA Championship Course and an iPod Touch. All the prizes have been donated by Europcar suppliers, who also work within the industry, with the winners set to be announced on 30th August.

"The whole Europcar team in Scotland have been throwing themselves behind the events to raise funds for BEN and we hope to reach our £3,000 target by the end of August," said Ken McCall, Managing Director, Europcar Group UK.  

"Each Europcar branch is responsible for raising their own funds and we are awarding prizes for the greatest amount raised, as well as best dressed team and most creative team name for the treasure hunt cars. The fundraising has also featured BEN collection tins at each Europcar station across Scotland throughout the Summer, casual dress days, car boot sales, goverment technology cake bakes and raffles to ensure everyone feels they can get involved.
